ABOUT US
How We Began
Cypriana was born out of my love for all things organic. After spending a year battling breast cancer, and the subsequent fear of it returning, I began searching for chemical-free alternatives for my home and personal use. I didn’t throw out my old products all at once, but little by little, I made the change to chemical-free. Chemical-free is not only better for me, but also better for the planet and those who inhabit it. Through Cypriana, I can pass those values on to my customers and feel good about helping others live healthier lives.
How We Select Products
I did a lot of research about today’s latest buzz words: green, eco-friendly, sustainable, natural and organic. I learned the meaning of these words and how they relate to me and the products I wanted to offer at Cypriana. As a result, I have chosen to provide the very best chemical-free products I could find. As I consider new items for the store, I research each product to ensure that it is well-made, will last for many years, and is really chemical-free, and not just “green washed.”
The majority of Cypriana’s products are organic – some products have extensive certifications, while others are strictly plant-based. We also carry some bamboo products that are not organic.
Important Facts about Bamboo and Cotton
At Cypriana, we offer a selection of products made from bamboo and organically-grown cotton. The manufacturing processes where bamboo-the-plant is transformed into bamboo-the-fabric are where the sustainability and eco-friendly luster of bamboo is tarnished because of the chemicals that are often required. Fortunately, bamboo is tremendously hardy and pest-resistant, and no fertilizers, pesticides or irrigation are required.
Organically-grown cotton is not treated with pesticides, herbicides or petroleum-based fertilizers, nor does it use genetically-engineered seed. In the United States, Egypt, India and other countries, farmers are raising cotton organically without the use of costly, often ineffective and dangerous chemicals. The growers and manufacturers of organic fabrics are devoted to developing alternative sources of the world’s favorite natural fiber.
The reality is that nothing is perfect. The conventional textile industry has a very significant impact on human health, social health and the environment. Are bamboo viscose, organic cotton and hemp perfect solutions to all of our textile-related environmental issues? No, but they are better solutions than conventional cotton and synthetics such as polyester.
Eco-friendly products will nurture our planet
It is important that we as consumers strive to buy quality, natural products whenever possible. We may spend a little extra for eco-friendly, organic or natural products, but when we purchase quality products made of organic fabrics, they will reduce our carbon footprint and last for years instead of becoming part of our landfills. These are high-quality, healthy purchases we can feel good about.
